ABOUT US
Valley Community Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). Valley Community was founded by Pastor Ted Kline in 1984 in a retirement community and was later moved to it's current location in San Jacinto, CA.
Rev. Guy Boyer is the current pastor. His passion is teaching the Word of God in a way that is easy to understand.
Pastor Guy grew up in a suburb of Denver and is the youngest of five brothers. His father was a successful executive with a Savings and Loan company and his mother had the never-ending task of keeping five boys moving in the right direction. Guy’s early passions were sports and the Lord. Guy’s life was divided into seasons: football season, basketball season and baseball season. He also cherished a close walk with the Lord.
Guy attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri and graduated from Denver Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. During his time at William Jewell College, he was active in football and student government. He was elected Student Body President his senior year. He majored in Public Relations primarily because most of the course work was in communication classes which Guy figured would be good for business or the ministry if he was ever called.
Guy’s professional career has been a puzzle that, only looking back, starts to make sense. Guy’s first job out of college was a sales rep for Kimberly Clark Corporation (Kleenex, Huggies diapers) in Salt Lake City, Utah. His next position was with American Honda Motor Company where he eventually became a District Sales Manager. After Honda, he attended seminary. However, during seminary he found another passion: coaching. Guy has coached football at the high school and college level for 13 of the past 17 years. Guy’s other professional positions have included the University of Phoenix, FedEx, Charles Schwab, as well as serving as the Coordinator of Adult Education and Singles Ministry at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Englewood, Colorado.
In 2003, Guy accepted the call to become the pastor at Valley Community Church in San Jacinto, California.
So how does all of this background prepare one for the ministry? Guy feels that the Lord allowed him to experience a broad range of positions so that he would understand people from many different walks of life. And whether one is a multi-million dollar client with Charles Schwab or the lowest man in the mailroom on a FedEx route, one thing remains the same: people need the Lord.
So the journey continues . . . serving the Lord in a smaller town in Southern California by pastoring a church and coaching football at the local high school.
